KABUL (Pajhwok): Saturday’s election poses a serious threat to the process of peace negotiations, warns former president Hamid Karzai.
In an interview, Karzai said: “We cannot conduct elections in a country that is going through a foreign-imposed conflict.”
He told the Associated Press that holding the elections in the prevailing situation amounted to asking a heart patient to run a marathon.
The polls could trigger Taliban attacks that would undermine the country, the ex-president feared, insisting: “This is no time for elections.”
He added Afghanistan was going through a foreign-imposed conflict. “It isn’t our conflict – we are only dying in it.”
