6 Islam Qala customs employees arrested

HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): National Directorate of Security (NDS) operatives have arrested six employees of the Islam Qala Customs Department on corruption charges in western Herat province, an official said Thursday.

Herat governor’s spokesman Jilani Farhad told Pajhwok Afghan News the customs employees faced charges including misuse of authority in description and scrutiny of goods at the customs department.

The detained employees have been accused of embezzling millions of afghanis, he said.

According to Farhad, at least 10 people have been arrested over illegal activities, planned crimes, kidnapping, terrorist activities, plantation of mines and other crimes.

Meanwhile, Toryali, Tahiri, deputy head of the Herat Provincial Council, complained against corruption in the customs department.

He asked the government to act and root out the menace from the customs department.
