Ghani: Afghans showed they want democracy

KABUL (Pajhwok): President Ashraf Ghani said on Saturday the Afghans went to polling stations to choose Afghanistan’s political destiny, make new democracy and establish it.

President Ghani on Saturday’ evening congratulated the nation on holding ‘successful polls.’

Ghani said people’s participation in the election showed the world they wanted democracy.

He said people welcomed the presidential form of government and showed respect to the country’s Constitution.

Also a candidate in the presidential election, the incumbent president also thanked security forces and termed September 28 (Saturday) as security forces’ day. He called the Afghan security forces as real forces of the system and the Constitution.

He commended the election bodies for holding today’s presidential election and also praised  his rivals and supporters who fought for democracy during electioneering.

President Ghani also urged the election bodies to address people’s complaints about presidential candidates during the electioneering at the earliest possible.

In his speech, President Ghani called on political leaders to come together to preserve Afghanistan’s republic and stability.

He also urged Taliban militants to stop violence and give positive response to people’s demand for lasting peace in the county.
