KABUL (Pajhwok): The Indian Embassy in Kabul on Wednesday celebrated the 150th birth anniversary of the nation’s father Mahatma Gandhi, known for promoting the culture of non-violence.
Vinay Kumar, Indian ambassador to Afghanistan, during a joint event with Afghan Post officials who organized a commemorative ceremony for Gandhi, said that the ceremony would further strengthen relations between India and Afghanistan.
The Afghan Post today attached a stamp of Gandhi on all its postal parcels and displayed an image of Gandhi during a joint commemorating ceremony in India Embassy in Kabul today.
Kumar said Afghanistan was currently suffering from extreme violence and there was need for following Mahatma Gandhi’s non-violence philosophy. He said Gandhi was born on October 2 in 1869 in Gujarat state of India.
Acting telecommunication and information technology minister, Fahim Hashemi who also attended the ceremony, said that 2,100 posts with Gandhi’s stamp have so far prepared jointly with the Indian Embassy.
He said the posts with Gandhi’s stamps was a symbol of friendship and commercial and economic relations between Afghanistan and India.
The ceremony was also attended by 20 students of Habibia High School who had studied about the character of Gandhi and received appreciation letters in the event.
