Rural women display handicrafts at Balkh show

MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): Handicrafts made by women of nine provinces in the northern zone were put on display at a two-day exhibition kicked off in Balkh province on Wednesday.

The handcrafts are displayed at 50 stalls at the show in Mazar-i-Sharif, the provincial capital.

Basit Aynee, Rural Rehabilitation and Development head, told Pajhwok Afghan News the Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development had arranged the exhibition.

He said the event was aimed at promoting handicrafts made by rural women of the northern zone of the country.

Aqila, a resident of Mazar-i-Sharif, said several handmade items were on display at the exhibition and hoped they would find domestic and international markets for their products.

Fareshta Akbari, another woman, told Pajhwok that she weaved rugs at home and thus met her family’s needs.

A number of rural women, who participated in the exhibition, urged the government to construct a special market for women made items in the province.
