PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Afghanistan’s decision to close its consulate in Peshawar for an indefinite period of time would affect trade between the two countries, warns a senior Pakistani politician.
On Friday, Afghanistan shut its consulate in Peshawar to protest the removal of its national flag from a disputed market in Peshawar.
Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) Chairman Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao urged Islamabad to prevent bilateral relations from being strained.
In a statement, he said: “This issue will strain relations between Islamabad and Kabul if corrective steps are not taken by the government.”
The issue would sow discord between the two countries, he said, asking the government to solve the dispute through diplomatic channels.
He feared the closure of the consulate would create serious problems for the business community and other people.
