MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): Governmental institutions, residents and political figures owe the power utility in northern Balkh province 1.3 billion afghanis in bills.
Eng. Hamidullah Hameedi, director of Da Afghanistan Breshna Shirkat in Balkh, told Pajhwok Afghan News during an exclusive interview they had launched determined efforts to collect the arrears.
Hameedi said several government entities, military bases and others were to pay about 1.3 billion afghanis to the power utility.
The official added borrowers had been offered easy terms and conditions to pay the dues. He confirmed some powerful individuals and Wolesi Jirga members had not yet paid their arrears.
Hameedi insisted his department was serious about collecting the dues. He warned if the defaulters did not pay the arrears, their electricity supply would be cut and their names shared with the media.
