KABUL (Pajhwok): President Ashraf Ghani and US Defence Secretary Mark Esper have discussed security issues, fighting terrorism and supporting the Afghan security forces.
In a statement, the Presidential Palace in Kabul said Ghani met the Pentagon chief on Sunday evening.
It said the two sides discussed security issues in the country, the region and the world at large, the war in terror, financing and equipping the Afghan forces.
Esper extended deep condolences on behalf of the US over the deadly bomb blast in the Haska Mena district of eastern Nangarhar province.
The visiting American dignitary also commended the successful conduct of the presidential ballot on September 28.
Ghani welcomed Esper and talked about efforts to banish administrative corruption and the measures his government had taken to improve governance.
Both sides discussed peace efforts and the regional situation, the statement from Ghani’s office said.
