5 US soldiers wounded in Helmand rocket attack

KABUL in southern Helmand province.

The rocket attack took place two days back on an American military base in Lashkargah, the provincial capital, The New York Times reported.

The newspaper said the strike happened before US Defense Secretary Mark Esper travelled to Afghanistan. The report did not provide further details.

The American forces based in Kabul told Pajhwok Afghan News they did not provide information about the injured soldiers.

Meanwhile, Taliban spokesman Qari Yousaf Ahmadi said they fired 60 rockets at the American base and inflicted huge casualties on the troops.
