HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): Scores of Taliban militants have been killed in Afghan forces airstrikes in western Herat province, an official said on Thursday.
Police Chief Aminullah Amarkhel told Pajhwok Afghan News the Taliban stormed security forces check posts in the Chest-i-Sharif district on Wednesday night.
Police were aware of the Taliban attack, he said, adding that the assailants were bombarded during the attack.
Amarkhel said 60 Taliban were killed in airstrikes on five positions. Most of the Taliban bodies were still in the battle ground.
According to Amarkehl security forces have not suffered casualties in the overnight attack. The Taliban have not spoken about the incident.
Earlier, seven soldiers were killed in the Taliban attack in the Kashak Kuhna district.
