KABUL (Pajhwok): President Ashraf Ghani has approved the resignation of Foreign Minister Salahuddin Rabbani.
Rabbani announced his resignation a day earlier, saying he could not continue as foreign minister under the current circumstances.
In his resignation letter, Rabbani alleged during his tenure as foreign minister, he saw the government creating ‘parallel structures’ and bringing down prestigious institutions. He said the government structure was treated as a personal community.
Presidential Spokesman Sediq Sediqi tweeted Ghani accepted the resignation of Rabbani in accordance with Article 64 of the constitution.
Rabbani, who served as acting minister for five years, had strained relations with the president.
The president recently ordered a probe into corruption in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs — a move which was unacceptable to Rabbani.
