KABUL (Pajhwok): US Special Representative Zalmay Khalilzad has met Pakistani officials on the current status of the Afghan peace process.
Khalilzd visited Islamabad on October 28-29. In his meetings with Prime Minister Imran Khan, Chief of Army Staff Gen. Qamar Javed Bajwa and other government officials, the diplomat discussed the peace process.
The US Embassy in Kabul said Khalilzad also talked about the importance of reducing violence and underscored economic and security benefits peace could bring to the region.
On Tuesday, Islamabad said Khan renewed Pakistan’s sincere support for the Afghan peace and reconciliation process and underlined the need for overcoming difficulties so that an enduring political solution to the conflict could be achieved.
It was important for all sides to take steps for curbing violence in Afghanistan, Khan stressed, asking all parties to guard against negative narratives and efforts at undermining the progress made so far.
