MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): A young man who has graduated from the journalism faculty is currently selling maize on a handcart in northern Balkh province. The youth sees corruption behind increasing joblessness and urges the government to end the menace.

Sayed Omar, a resident of Chamtal district, graduated from the journalism faculty of the university in southern Kandahar province four months back.

Omar takes care of his eight-member family and his father, a heart patient, is currently under treatment in neighbouring Pakistan.

Sayed Omar told Pajhwok Afghan News he was trying to land a job since graduating from the journalism department but has not been successful so far.

He said during his university time he did not think he would not find a job after graduation and that he would sell maize corns on handcart.

He said, “People in my village make fun of me and say this guy after 16 years studies runs a handcart and is unemployed.”

 However, he was not happy with his current life after passing through hard days in hope of a good life in future.

Omar said after failing to job in government and non-governmental institutions, he decided to sell maize corns on handcart in the bazaar.

“Our neighbours sarcastically tell my father that after a lot of expenses your son is jobless.” He said he had convinced his father that they would have a bright future.

He said he took take care of his eight family members and his father was currently under treatment in Pakistan.

Sayed Omar claimed he had topped his university but his poor economic situation never allowed him to pursue higher studies. He claimed even teacher posts were sold against money.

Sayed Omar said some individuals motivated him towards bad activities but he promised himself never to indulge in unlawful things in life.

He urged the government to root out administrative corruption and provide job opportunity to the new generation.
