PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): UNHCR’s Assistant High Commissioner for Operations George Okoth-Obbo is due in Pakistan today (Tuesday), the refugee agency says.
During his four-day visit, the UN official will meet senior Pakistani government officials, as well as Afghan refugees in Islamabad and Peshawar.
Okoth-Obbo will participate in the appointment ceremony of UNHCR’s first National Goodwill Ambassador in Pakistan and inaugurate a cold chain warehouse in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
In addition, the UNHCR said in a statement, he would have an opportunity to interact with refugees during his visit.
In Peshawar, Okoth-Obbo will meet senior officials of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government, including the chief minister and several members of his Cabinet.
Accompanying him will be UNHCR's Director of the Regional Bureau for Asia and the Pacific Indrika Ratwatte. This is the assistant high commissioner’s second visit to Pakistan.
