MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): A district police chief has been killed in a Taliban attack in northern Balkh province, an official said on Wednesday.
Police spokesman Adel Shah Adel told Pajhwok Afghan News the Taliban stormed the Chahar Bolak district police headquarters on Tuesday night.
He said Kiramuddin, the district police head, was killed and three of his guards were wounded in the ensuing clash that lasted for three hours.
The militants also suffered casualties in the firefight, the police spokesman said without giving exact figures.
He added the insurgent attack was repulsed and the district centre and police headquarters were under government control.
The Taliban have not yet commented about the overnight attack.
