KABUL figures, including Anas Haqqani, have arrived in Qatar, a credible source claimed on Thursday.
On Tuesday, President Ashraf Ghani announced the three Taliban leaders would be freed to pave the ground for the release of US, Australian professors.
A well-placed source, speaking on condition of anonymity, confided to Pajhwok Afghan News the three figures arrived in Doha on Thursday.
With the Taliban yet to comment on the development, Government Media Office head Freoz Bashari told media representatives that international partners of the government had promised the released insurgent leaders would not return to the battlefield.
The teachers were kidnapped by the Taliban in August 2016 from the American University of Afghanistan in Kabul.
The three militants, freed in line with a prisoner swap deal, are Anas Haqqani, Hafiz Rashid and Haji Milli Khan.
Taliban’s Political Office Spokesman Sohail Shaheen made no comment on the arrival of the three figures to Doha.
