Nation can’t afford to be on streets again: Noor

KABUL Afghanistan leader Atta Mohammad Noor on Monday said no one wanted to come out on streets like 2014 and urged people not test someone tested before.

Noor, former governor of northern Balkh province, in a statement said it was for the first time that political figures and presidential candidates introduced their nominees to be appointed as members of the electoral bodies.

“As a result, a number of commissioners were elected to these positions and appointed to advance this national mandate. We now urge all candidates to give the commissions the opportunity to complete the process as the only legitimate authority and announce the election results," he added.

Noor called on those who wanted to create a crisis for their own ends not to play with the fate of the people anymore for the sake of their own small goals.

He also urged the people of Afghanistan not to listen to the words of certain individuals who had been repeatedly tested.

Noor said no one was interested in coming out on roads and no one has such a wish; creating a crisis. “The nation cannot afford coming out on streets,” he said.

He said, “I call on Islamic scholars, elders and the people of Afghanistan to stand against individuals attempting to achieve power via any means.”

Noor said he will soon announce his view with people in this regard at a press conference.

The ex-Balkh governor did not name the candidate but he probably referred to Dr. Abdullah Abdullah as he mentioned to the creation of crisis and CEO post.

Abdullah in the 2014 election refused to accept the election result that led to the creation of the CEO post and the national unity government.
