KABUL Forces Commander Gen. Scott Miller did not confer any medal on Vice-President Gen. Abdul Rashid Dostum, the alliance said on Tuesday.
The NATO commander and Defence Minister Asadullah Khalid visited Jawzjan province on Monday and met Gen. Dostum.
Some photographs of the meeting went viral on social media, in which the NATO commander was seen conferring a medal on the Uzbek leader.
Barbar Farahmand, head of Dostum’s office, wrote on his Facebook page that Gen. Miller had conferred a medal on VP for fighting against the Taliban and supporting the Afghan security forces.
But US military spokesperson in Kabul Lt. Col Sonny loggett denied Miller had awarded any medal to Dostum.
He explained the top US commander had given Dostum signs of NATO as a gift.
