JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Police in eastern Nangarhar province have arrested 99 suspected criminals and recovered hundreds of weapons and hundreds kilograms of drugs in the past two weeks, an official said on Monday.
Governor Shah Mahmood Meiakhel told reporters that police have arrested 99 suspected individuals in connection to kidnapping, trafficking, family violence, murder, robbery, drugs, links with armed groups and some other criminal activities.
He said police conducted 34 joint operations along with other security institutions in Shinwari, Kot, Sherzad, Khogyano districts and parts of Jalalabad City in the past two week.
Ninety-nine suspected criminals had been arrested, 32 insurgents killed and 975 kilograms of drugs recovered during these operations, the governor added.
Police Chief Col. Emal Niyazi said among the detained suspected criminals, 11 were held in connection to human trafficking, one for murder, one for sexual case, three over an attack on a house, 13 for inflicting injuries on others, eight over falsely claiming ownership of goods, five over family violence, four for robbery, two former prisoners who escaped from jail, six for smuggling of mobile phones and drugs and one persons for producing low quality soap.
He said 21 suspects had been arrested for possessing 975 kilograms of drugs, 21 held over links with militants groups, including 13 Daesh rebels with as many weapons. Two more suspects had been held over smuggling of foreign currency and three persons were arrested for links with foreign militants.
Niyazi said police in collaboration with other security institutions recovered three caches of weapons, suicide jackets, over two hundred different bullets and some other ammunition during raids.
He said in the past people were unable to easily travel to districts but now government officials could easily travel to foreign countries.
