KABUL (Pajhwok): Nearly 400 Afghans have been granted Indian citizenship over the last three years, says the Indian minister of state for home affairs
Nityanand Rai provided citizenship data for from 2016 to 2018 about refugees from Afghanistan to the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday,
In a written reply, Rai said 391 Afghan and 712 Pakistani migrants were granted Indian citizenship till December 6, 2019.
The Indo-Asian News Service quoted the minister as saying 927 Sikhs and Hindus from Afghanistan and Pakistan had been given Indian nationality.
On Wednesday, the Rajya Sabha passed the contentious Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2019, with 125 votes in favour and 99 against.
