KABUL (Pajhwok): The Department of Kochi Affairs has launched a campaign to promote the afghani and encourage the nomads use the local currency because it is a national identity.
The fresh campaign has been recently launched to stop the use of foreign currency and promote local currency in Kunar, Nuristan, Laghman, Kandahar, Ghazni and Khost provinces.
Local officials in Nangarhar have announced that after December 22, no one will be allowed to use Pakistani rupee in the province.
Habib Rahman, head of the Kochi Affairs Department in the Ministry of Borders and Tribal Affairs, told reporters that Kochies lived in every part of the country so it was necessary to encourage them to use local currency instead of foreign currency specially the Pakistani rupee.
“Afghani is our national identity and we should not be ashamed of using them. Kochies play vital role in economy of the country and we can better promote the culture of using afghani,” he said.
He said Kochis could earn more profit from local currency because the rates of foreign currency were unstable.
Faridon Barakzai, technical deputy head of the Border Affairs Ministry, said the use of afghani was vital for economic development of the country, but unfortunately foreign currencies were used in some parts of the country instead of the afghani.
