Taliban’s shadow district chief killed in airstrike

KABUL’s shadow governor for the Nawzad district of southern Helmand province has been killed in an airstrike, the army said on Thursday.

Mullah Abdul Wasy, planning to attack a convoy of security forces, was killed on the border between Daikundi and Helmand.

A statement from the Atal Military Corps said the strike left Mullah Abdul Wasy and three of his associates dead. Wasy was blamed for dozens of deadly terrorist attacks in Helmand.
