SHARAN (Pajhwok): Security forces have burned eight tonnes of hashish to ashes and seized another 250 kilograms during operation in the Khoshamand district of southeastern Paktika province, an official said on Saturday.
Police Chief Col. Nisar Ahmad Abdul Rahimzai told Pajhwok Afghan News that they carried out operation against hashish depot in the district on Friday night.
He said eight tonnes of the illicit substance were torched to ashes while over 200 kilograms were taken by security forces, he said, adding three people had been arrest in connection to storing hashish.
The police chief added most areas of Khoshamand district are under the Taliban control, therefore, people openly grow hashish on their lands.
A resident of locality who wished not to be named told Pajhwok Afghan News on the condition of anonymity that they had created special places to store and keep hashish there.
The source said arrested three men worked in the hashish production factory.
Saifullah, the resident of Khoshamand, acknowledged that hundreds of factory and storage facilities of hashish existed in the district.
It is worth mentioning that security forces had destroyed five tonnes of hashish during a raid in Khoshamand district the other night.
