Corruption probe: Nangarhar recovers 2m afghanis

JALALABAD (Pajhwok): The Appellant Attorney Department in eastern Nangarhar province has so far investigated 1184 cases this year, including 20 administrative corruption cases.

The corruption related cases belonged to customs, municipality and agriculture sectors while matters concerning other government departments were also among the cases that were investigated this year.

The Appellant Attorney Department says over two million afghanis were recovered and added to the national treasury as a result of their investigation.

Many weapons, vehicles, drugs and other equipment were also recovered during the investigation and handed over to the government.

Esmatullah, attorney general of the Appellant Attorney Department, said among the total cases investigated last year, 495 were criminal and corruption related cases, 476 were ordinary crimes, 99 linked to children, 92 linked to women and 20 others were linked to administrative and financial corruption.

As a result of investigation of these cases, 73 vehicles, 336 weapons, 4,600 bullets, 2,500 kilograms of semi precious stones, over 200 tones of drugs and other illegal equipment and substance were recovered.

Esmtaullah said 20 corruption related cases had been investigated as well during the ongoing solar year.
