<p>KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): Insurgents launched a car bomb attack on a base of security forces in southern Kandahar province on Sunday.</p>
<p>Bahir Ahmadi, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News the explosives-laden vehicle was hit by the security personnel before it reached the target.</p>
<p>As the vehicle exploded at the base in Khakrez district, a gunbattle erupted between the two sides. The clash was still ongoing, Ahmadi said. </p>
<p>The official added reinforcements were on their way to the Sharghi area of the district. Information regarding casualties is not available so far.</p>
