Iran blames US for wars, instability in region

KABUL (Pajhwok): America’s aggressive policies have pushed the region into endless wars, extremism and violence, the Iranian foreign minister alleged on Tuesday.

Javad Zarif stated, in his inaugural address to the Tehran Dialogue Forum, said resort to war had become a norm in the region due to the attitude of the US and its followers.

Former Afghan president Hamid Karzai, Omani Foreign Minister Yusuf bin Alawi and several other dignitaries are attending the dialogue, according to IRNA.

“This is a vicious circle that must be broken by regional actors and all those committed to peace and stability,” the Iranian foreign minister stressed.

The end of America’s malignant presence in West Asia had begun, Zarif said, denouncing the killing of Iran’s Quds Force commander in a recent US airstrike in Baghdad as an act of “state terrorism”.

Many US presidents, including Donald Trump, had set on fire the region for their short-sighted domestic policy goals, the minister alleged.

“What this region needs now, more than ever before, is inclusive dialogue. This lies at the foundation of the initiative Iran has been pursuing for years within the UN framework.

“This initiative, currently known as HOPE - Hormuz Peace Endeavor – was introduced at the UN General Assembly last year by the Iranian president,” Zarif added.

Iran would continue to serve as the anchor of peace and development in region, he promised, asking neighbours for partnership.
