KABUL (Pajhwok): Former president Hamid Karzai on Tuesday addressed Tehran Dialogue Forum 2020, in Iran’s capital, urging the US to decrease tensions and return to the unclear deal with the Islamic republic.

A statement from the ex-president’s media office to Pajhwok Afghan News said Hamid Karzai took part in Tehran Dialogue Forum 2020.

The event was arranged by the Political and International Studies Center of Iran Foreign Ministry.

The statement said Hamid Karzai stressed regional countries’ cooperation in de-escalation of the tension.

Karzai commended and thanked major countries of the world’s neighbors, especially Iran, after the 11/9 incident.

Addressing the gathering, the former president urged the US to decrease tensions and return to its unclear deal with Iran.

He also hoped the European Union (EU), Russia and China would play a vital role reducing tension between the two countries.

The statement said Hamid Karzai also held a meeting with Iran foreign minister Jawad Zarif where Afghan envoy Abdul Ghafoor Liwal was also present.
