Ghani, Stoltenberg confer on peace and security

KABUL Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg on Wednesday evening and discussed the alliance’s commitments to sustained assistance to Afghan forces.

The Presidential Palace said the NATO secretary-general expressed disappointment over the postponement of his visit to Kabul due to the crisis in the region. However, he pledged to visit Kabul at a suitable and convenient time.

The two sides underscored the need for ensuring peace and stability in Afghanistan. Peace would continue to elude the region as long as terrorist safe havens in the region were not eradicated, Ghani’s office said in a statement.

It added the two leaders also agreed to discuss in detail strategic and multifaceted issues between Afghanistan and NATO during the upcoming visit of Secretary General Stoltenberg to Kabul.
