120 houses damaged by Samangan mountain slip

AIBAK (Pajhwok): At least 120 houses have been damaged as a result of a mountain slide in the Dara-i-Sauf Bala district of northern Samangan province, an official said on Saturday.

Natural Disaster Management Authority Director Sibghatullah Sias told Pajhwok Afghan News the mountain had slipped about 150 metres over the past eight days. The mountain is near a coalmine in Dahana Tor area.

Ahmad Ali Hussaini, the district’s administrative chief, said the mountain slip damaged120 homes, a school and a mosque. Around 250 houses in the area remained safe but faced danger, he added.

The mountain slide caused no casualties and many families moved to safer areas, the official said.

Deputy Governor Sifatullah Samangani said the Ministry of Defence had promised to dispatch a delegation to the area via a helicopter. However, there was no sign yet of the MoD team arriving in the area.
