KABUL (Pajhwok): The Independent Electoral Complaints Commission (IECC) on Sunday announced registering 371 objections to the rejection of candidate complaints from nine provinces.
Mohammad Qasim Ilyasi, spokesman for IECC, told a press conference here votes from 2,928 polling stations in 25 provinces would be recounted.
He said most of the polling stations were located in Nangarhar, Kunar, Nimroz, Paktia and Helmand provinces.
“Of the 2,928 stations, 1,580 are in Nangarhar, 186 in Paktia, 177 in Nimroz, 243 in Kunar and more than 150 in Helmand,” he explained.
According to Ilyasi, a vote recount strategy for these polling stations would be shared with the Independent Election Commission (IEC) in a couple of days and before a decision on the issue was taken.
Election-related cases in 27 or 28 provinces have been decided been taken. Of the complaints total registered, 6,871 have been settled and are ready to be announced while another 7,698 are being decided.
The IECC official said a final decision would be made within two days.
About 381 objections have been registered in nine provinces -- 177 in Laghman, three each in Panjsher, Sar-i-Pul, Badakhshan and Uruzgan, 141 in Ghor, 20 in Daikundi, 27 in Zabul and four in Faryab.
The presidential elections were held on September 28 last year and the preliminary results were announced on December 22, 2019.
