SHIBERGHAN (Pajhwok): The number of policewomen in northern Jawzjan province doubled this year, compared to the previous year, an official said on Wednesday.
Police chief Abdul Wahid Wijdan told Pajhwok Afghan News during an inclusive interview that women’s interest in police force was increasing in the province.
He said they had 40 policewomen last year but their strength doubled to 80 this year.
He said efforts were underway to recruit more women in different positions in the police force and provide them facilities as well.
He termed policewomen’s participation in ensuring safety as important and effective. He said Najiba Dilawari’s father was in Taliban ranks but when she got job in police, her father left the insurgency.
Najiba, a resident of Qush Tepa district is serving as a police officer at the provincial police headquarters.
Police chief said, “Najiba Dilawari is as great example for other girls to join the police in the province.”
Najiba Dilawari told Pajhwok that five years back her father joined the Taliban and then she got job in police. “It is a great honor to serve as a police officer and meet my family needs wither my salary.
She said when her father went to Taliban ranks five years back, she was deeply concerned for her life and always thought how to escape from the Taliban area. But later she got an opportunity to bring her family to a safe place as well.
She added after consulting one of her relatives, she left the district and lived in Shiberghan City, the provincial capital, and later joined the police academy. She now led a happy life with her family.
Nooruhai, father of Najiba, told Pajhwok that before joining the Taliban, he met his family issues by making Tawiz (amulets).
He said it took him few days to change his mind and leave the Taliban. Later he escaped and surrendered to security forces.
The father said, “Now we live a stable live. Me and my daughter work and the rest of my children go to school.”
