TARINKOT (Pajhwok): The salaries and other privileges of 70 percent policemen deployed in the districts of central Uruzgan province gone to the private pockets due to which there had been surge in police casualties, an official said on Thursday.
Governor Asadullah Saeed said this during a gathering at the Police Headquarters where officials of the security institutions, justice department, military commanders and heads of police stations were present.
There are 70 vacant posts of policemen in the districts, but there salaries and privileges were drawn by the district police commanders, he said.
The governor said there are districts that have 400 police force in the structure, but only 40 policemen served there in real.
This is why there is surge in the casualties of policemen and government has no control in the districts, he added.
Saeedi said all police chiefs should ensure security in their respective areas and prevent militants’ movements to the provincial capital.
Acting Police Chief Col. Sardar Mohammad Haya said individuals that did not respect the law or misused police uniform would be removed from their jobs.
He said the cases of some police chiefs had been referred to judicial organs for investigations.
Provincial Council Chief Amir Mohammad Barakzai said they also demanded eradication of corruption from police ranks and hoped that concerned authorities would act.
