160kg of hashish seized in Logar raid, say police

PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): At least 160 kilograms of hashish has been seized in a raid in the Azra district of central Logar province, an official said on Saturday.

Police spokesman Shahpur Ahmadzai told Pajhwok Afghan News the security forces conducted the raid in the Akbarkhel area of the district late on Friday.

He said about 160 kilograms of hashish was seized during the raid. “The hashish had been skillfully placed inside a pick-up vehicle,” he added. However, no arrest was made.

Bismillah, a tribal elder from the area, said hashish was freely cultivated in the district. “Eighty percent of land in the district is cultivated with hashish.”

He claimed drugs from eastern provinces arrived in the district before being smuggled to other areas.
