JALALABAD (Pajhwok): The Public Health, an official said on Thursday.

Public Health Director Dr. Naseer Ahmad Durrani told Pajhwok Afghan News they had transferred medical equipment and needed things to the Torkham township to conduct tests of individuals returning from China via Torkham.

Health officials trained and provided all information to individuals in-charge at the BHC clinic in Torkahm and they have started their work, he said.

Known as “2019-nCoV”, the newly identified coronavirus has created alarm because it is spreading quickly and there are still important unknowns surrounding it, such as its lethality and whether it is infectious before symptoms show.

It emerged late last year in Wuhan, a major transportation hub and capital of central Hubei province with a population of 11 million people. China has since moved to lock down most of Hubei, with a population around the same as Italy.

The deadly virus has killed over 140 people and infected up to 5,000 in China.

On Wednesday, the Afghanistan Civil Aviation Authority (ACAA) announced putting in place elaborate measures for control and monitoring of coronavirus in coordination with the Ministry of Public Health at Kabul Airport. Durrani said they closed five medical stores that did not have legal documents.

He said he visited the Maternity Ward at the Zonal Hospital and monitored services to ensure provision of more facilities
