KABUL has suspended exports to China through air corridors, an official says.

The only private airline exporting up to 20 tonnes of Afghan goods to China daily had suspended its flights to that country, Afghanistan of Chamber and Industries CEO Syed Zaman Hashimi said.

During the current fiscal year, Afghanistan has exported more than 1,800 tonnes of pine nuts worth millions of dollars to China through the air corridor.

The coronavirus outbreak in China has affected trade relations between the two countries. Air corridors are the most direct route for Afghan investors to send their exports to China.

Afghanistan’s dry fruit and saffron are transported to China every week by Turkish Airlines flights, which have been stopped since the virus outbreak. The virus has killed over 300 people and has infected thousands.

Hashimi said they had been informed the Turkish Airline had suspended its flights to China for a week. Thus imports of fruits and vegetables from China have also stopped.
