Logar, Kunar IDPs, poor families get cash, food assistance

PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): Hundreds of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and poor families have received cash and food aid in central Logar and eastern Kunar provinces, officials said on Monday.

Logar Urban Development Department Director Asghar Zazai said the food packages included flour, Ghee, salt and pulses provided by the World Food Program (WFP).

He said around 990 displaced and poor families have been distributed the assistance.

Mohammad Ajan, a beneficiary, has expressed his happiness over receiving assistance, urging the government to provide them certain aid in the future too.

According to another report, 739 families have been given cash aid in Kunar province.

Abdul Rashid, Kunar refugees and repatriation director, told Pajhwok that 4,700 families have been displaced due to ongoing conflict in the past year.

He said they above displaced families had been previously given food assistance but now 739 families provided with cash aid.

He added that each family was given 15,616 afghanis in cash.

Shafiullah, a beneficiary and resident of Watapour district of neighboring Nangarhar, saying he had been displaced to Asadabad City, the provincial capital of Kunar province due to the ongoing conflict in their area.

He was happy over receiving assistance but urged the government to stabilize their areas till return back to their own villages.
