SHARAN (Pajhwok): Thousands of residents of southern Paktika province on Monday protested against killing of two people by armed thieves in the province.
A day earlier, two brothers were killed and another injured after a number of armed robbers opened fire on them in Sharan city, the provincial capital.
Thousands of Paktika residents today took to streets in Shahidan square of Sharan city in protest to the incident today.
Pir Mohammad, a relative of the victims said that the people were killed in an area with close police presence.
“No any incidents had happened in the past when there were no police posts here, but this incident happened after Afghan Local Police (ALP) are deployed to the area, people now worry about their safety,” he said.
Haji Niaz, father of the two slain brothers, said, “Both of the youths killed are my sons, they had wives and children, I want the murderers of my sons from the government,” he said.
He said that if the government failed to arrest the murderers and punish them, he would hold the governor’s house accountable to protect his grandchildren by its own.
A son of one of the victims said, “I, my father, my uncle and one another person were walking when a Corolla model car stopped in front of us and armed people got out of it, they argued with us and it turned to serious dispute, they killed my father and uncle,”
A number of other protests also asked the government to arrest the perpetrators of the incident and take them to justice.
On the other hand, Paktika police chief, Col. Nisar Ahmad Abdul Rahimzai said that a gang of robbers recently appeared in Sharan city.
He said that police have so far detained five of the criminals and efforts were underway to capture all of them.
“We try to arrest the murderers of people killed and take them to justice, we investigate about the incident and will share our information with the public,” he said.
Around 5,000 people had participated in the protest and all shops and business centers were closed in Sharan city today.
