5 police personnel killed in Helmand roadside blast

<p>LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): At least five police personnel have been killed as a result of a roadside bombing in southern Helmand province, an official said on Wednesday.</p>

<p>A security official, who declined to be named, told Pajhwok Afghan News a police pick-up struck the bomb in the Hazar Asp area of Nawa district on Tuesday night.</p>

<p>The official, who did not want to be named, said five policemen were killed and their vehicle destroyed by the overnight explosion.</p>

<p>Meanwhile, the governor’s spokesman confirmed the incident but said nothing about casualties.</p>

<p>The <a href="/en/taliban" class="glossify-link">Taliban</a>, meanwhile, claimed credit for the bombing. The group’s spokesman Qari Yousaf Ahmadi said the movement’s fighters had attacked the police vehicle.</p>

<p>He said five police personnel, including a commander, were killed in the bomb attack.</p>
