KABUL (Pajhwok): Four officials of the Counternarcotics Department at the police headquarters of Kabul have been sentenced from one and a half to 17 years in prison over facilitating drugs smuggling and peddling.
A primary court of the Counternarcotics Justice Centre handed down jail terms to the four officials including a senior officer on Wednesday, said Jamshid Rasouli, spokesperson for the Attorney General Office (AGO).
Earlier, the Kabul Police Headquarters in a statement had confirmed the arrest of four police personnel including a senior official over alleged drug trafficking and sale in Kabul.
The AGO spokesman identified the senior official as Ahmad, who was sentenced to 17 years in jail. Another three officials including Lemar was sentenced to seven years and Nooruddin and Mohammad Esa sentenced to one year each.
He said these individuals had been arrested from Parwan after Shamsurrahman known as Shamak during interrogation had revealed their cooperation with him.
