SAR-I-PUL (Pajhwok): Hundreds of supporters of the Stability and Partnership team, led by Dr. Abdullah, on Saturday introduced Mohammad Noor Rahmani as new governor of northern Sar-i-Pul province.
Last week, the Independent Election Commission unveiled the final results from last September's presidential polls following delays due to rigging claims.
The commission declared President Ashraf Ghani as the winner, saying he had been re-elected with 50.64% of the vote.
But his main rival Abdullah, who finished second with 39.52% of vote, contested the result, declared victoryand vowed to form a parallel government.
Hundreds of supporters of Abdullah’s team today introduced Mohammad Noor Rahmani, the provincial council chief of Sar-i-Pul as new governor of the province in the governor’s house today noon.
The present governor of the province, Abdul Qadir Ashna, and other workers of the governor’s house were absent as the new governor was introduced.
Bashir Ahmad Tayanj, an advisor to the CEO, said he had been sent by the Stability and Partnership team to Sar-i-Pul to enforce the CE’s order.
At a ceremonyhere, Tayanj read out Abdullah’sorders appointing Rahmani as new governor for Sar-i-Pul.
Those provincial who support the new governor would stay in their positions, but those flouting the Stability and Partnership team’sorders would be fired or replaced, he warned.
“There is no violence on our agenda and the security forces should also remain impartial,” he added.
Pajhwok Afghan News tried to contact Sar-i-Pul officials and the Ministry of Interiorspokespersons for comment, but no one responded to its calls.
