134 ex-MPs yet to return govt weapons, equipment

KABUL secretary said Monday.

Abdul Qadir Zazai, Wolesi Jirga secretary, talking at the Government’s Media and Information Center (GMIC) here, said that despite their requests, 134 legislators had been refusing to return some military equipment to the parliament.

He said the parliament has sent letters to the Presidential Palace, National Directorate of Security (NDS), Ministry of Interior and Attorney General Office about the issue, but the former MPs were yet to return the equipment.

Zazai said weapons and equipment remaining with former legislators included 417 Kalashnikovs, 155 jammers, 138 pistols, 75 walkie-talkies, barbed wire, 17 containers, 12 vehicles, seven concrete towers, four concrete barriers and three electronic gates.

He said the attendance for legislators was upgraded to electronic system this year and the trust vote system would be also made electronic in future.

Zazai also shared a list of former legislators who did not submit their weapons and equipment to the parliament.

Ghulam Sarwar Fayez, a former representative from Ghor province who is also in the list, said he had returned all weapons and vehicles to the parliament before his tenure ended.

“Only four weapons are still with us, we will return them once our security is ensured,” he said.
