KABUL (Pajhwok): President Ashraf Ghani held a telephonic conversation with Qatari Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani on the Afghan peace process late on Tuesday evening.
A statement from the Presidential Palace said on Wednesday Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani reaffirmed his country’s support for the Afghan peace and reconciliation process.
At a meeting with Taliban was altogether different from what it used to be two decades back, A series of new realities had taken place in Afghanistan, he added.
The Qatari ruler said one new reality in Afghanistan was that it had a legitimate and democratically elected government. The Taliban should accept the Afghan government’s legitimacy and discuss their demands in the upcoming intra-Afghan talks.
Ghani thanked the Qatar emir, saying in case of need he would continue talking over the telephone with him. He also appreciated Qatar’s interest in Afghanistan’s stability.
