Snow closes Salang highway for heavy traffic

CHARIKAR, was shut for cargo trucks on Thursday, an official said.

Samiullah Walizada, the highway maintenance commander, told Pajhwok Afghan News the key route was closed for cargo trucks as a result of heavy snowfall and strong winds.

He said 50 centimeters of snowfall was recorded in the northern part of the highway and 15 centimeters in the southern portion. Clearing teams gave been dispatched to the area.

In the winter, traveling the busy highway is dangerous for passengers due to heavy snow and cold weather conditions.
