Govt-Taliban talks must start soon: AIHRC north

MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): The Afghanistan to end the ongoing conflict through talks.

Mohammad Samih, AIHRC head for northern region, met with civil society’s rights activists and youths in Mazar-i-Sharif City, the capital of northern Balkh province, and urged reduction in violence.

He told Pajhwok Afghan News that a good opportunity existed to bring the ongoing to an end and reach lasting peace nation-wide.

He said every war had ended with talks and the government and Taliban should start negotiations for a political solution.

Samih also called on all political figures to address their issues via negotiations.

He added Afghans besides supporting the peace process also wanted protection of achievements made over the past two decades. The warning parties should pay attention in this regard.

Meanwhile, Mohammad Muhsin Danish, the Ulema Council head, welcomed the US-Taliban peace agreement and called for early launch of intra-Afghan dialogue.

He said the Taliban had no more reason to continue the war in Afghanistan and it would be good for them to start intra-Afghan talks.

He said killing of innocent people was not allowed in Islam which gave priority to peace negotiations for solution to a war in a society.

Hamid Safwat, Balkh civil society coordination center head, told Pajhwok that one part of the US-Taliban agreement was reduction in violence but that part was recently broken.

He said to reach peace all sides should show it in practice and should commitment for their promises.

Shazia Haqjo, a women’s rights activist, said the Afghan government and the Taliban should declare a long ceasefire before entering intra-Afghan talks.

A number of others civil society activists held similar views and urged the Afghan government and the Taliban to end the ongoing war via peace negotiation as soon as possible.
