Transport, parliamentary affairs ministers present reports

KABUL (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Transport on Thursday said it collected 12.3 billion afghanis in revenue last year while the State Ministry in Parliamentary Affairs said it followed 32 documents for approval and organized 821 summoning and hearing meetings.

The two ministries presented their annual performance reports during an accountability conference of the government today.

Mohammad Yama Shams, acting transport minister, listed construction, protection and maintenance of transport infrastructures including highways, roads, bridges, culverts, railways, airports and stations, as well offering other transport services and managing transport network as their main activities last year.

He said the ministry collected 12.3 billion afghanis in income from transport services current solar year.

He said that 7.2 billion afghanis of the revenue was collected from civil aviation, 2.5 billion from railways, 2.1 billion ass from road transport, 488 million afghanis through traffic department and 65 million afghanis through National Road Authority.

A total of 77 development projects were implemented this year which included survey, design, construction and maintenance of roads, bridges, culverts and retaining walls, he said.

Of these projects, Shams said 52 were implemented through National Road Authority, six projects in railroads, 15 projects in civil aviation area, two projects in road transport area and three other projects through traffic department.

He added that 478 kilometers of road was asphalted, 146 kilometers of road graveled and 246 villages districts have been connected this year.

On the other hand, Ghulam Faroq Wardak, state minister in parliamentary affairs, talking in the accountability conference said that inaugurating the 17the legislative term of the parliament, organizing the president’s work meetings with the parliament members, organizing parliament members’ meetings with government officials, providing reports daily of the two houses of the parliament to the Presidential Palace and implementing the cabinet’s bills were the activities of the ministry in the this year.

He said that the ministry organized 821 summoning and hearing sessions related to both lower had upper houses of the parliament this year.

“A total of 429 reports about the daily performance of the parliament and parliament members’ meetings with top government officials are shared with the Presidential Palace,” he said.

Wardak said that the parliament approved nine legislative, 20 international and three budgetary documents in 1398 year and the ministry has followed the approval process of the documents.
