UN chief congratulates Ghani on second term in office

KABUL (Pajhwok): UN secretary general Antonio Guterres has congratulated President Ashraf Ghani on winning his second term in office and wished for lasting peace in the war-torn country.

In a letter, the UN chief assured the people and the government of Afghanistan body’s continued commitment in addressing opportunities and challenges ahead in the spirit of partnership and collaboration.

Antonio Guterres said he was confident cooperation between Afghanistan and the UN would strengthen under the leadership of Ghani.

He said the UN was ready to support inclusive peace process in Afghanistan with meaningful participation of women and youth, adding that he was looking forward to working with the new government in Kabul.
