SHARANA (Pajhwok): The governor of southeastern Paktika province on Monday announced closing Angoor Adah and Qamruddin highways in Barmal district on the border with Pakistan to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

Governor Mujib Rahman Samkani told a process conference in Sharana, the provincial capital, that the two transit routes were closed to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

He said, “The highways would remain closed until the fears about coronavirus are addressed.”

He said people in the province were deeply concerned about 2000 individuals who recently returned from Iran and Pakistan to the province.

He said, “People are worried about these individuals that they may carry the coronavirus and therefore we have taken such preemptive measures in border areas.”

Dr. Rasooli, Public Health Director, told Pajhwok Afghan News that no positive coronavirus case had surfaced in the province so far.

But he said the return of 2000 people from Pakistan and Iran had worried people in the province.

He assured that all preparations had been made to prevent the spread of coronavirus in the province.

On the other hand, a doctor, wishing to go unnamed, told Pajhwok they had been lacking specific clothes and feared contracting the virus from positive patients.
