Work on 100-bed Corona-centric hospital begins in Herat

KABUL (Pajhwok): Construction work on a 100-bed hospital for Coronavirus patients has been started on the outskirts of Herat City, the capital of western Herat province, the governor said Wednesday.

In compliance with presidential orders, the hospital is being constructed in Dasht-e-Gazarga east of Herat City and would be made operational in 15 days, he said.

Rahimi said the facility was being built on 2,000 square metres of land in three shifts involving 100 labourers, experts and engineers to ensure early completion.

The residents of Herat welcomed the government move to build the hospital for Corona patients and demanded more attention and help from the government.

Abdullah, a resident of Herat City, said: “It is important that government pay more attention to Herat in these circumstances because it is the epicenter of Coronavirus.”

Currently, corona patients and suspected individuals are kept in a health facility in Shaidaee locality of Herat City.

Afghanistan has registered 22 positive cases in seven provinces and 340 suspected cases have been referred for test in remaining provinces.

According to the health ministry, 273 of the total 340 suspects have tested negative while 45 others are being examined.
