HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): Following the increase in coronavirus cases, the Shiite community on Monday closed their 310 worship places in western Herat province.
Mohammad Isa Qurbani, who is responsible for managing worship places, told Pajhwok Afghan News that their council had decided to suspend prayers in mosques for prevention of coronavirus spread. He asked the faithful to perform prayers at their homes.
Qurbani said besides cancelling prayers in worship places, funeral gatherings have also been suspended in these areas. “A total of 310 worship places are closed from today,” he said.
He also asked residents of Herat to share their sympathies with those infected by the disease through telephone and internet.
A total of 44 positive cases of coronavirus have been detected in the country, with 21 of them in Herat province.
