Police personnel among 6 killed in Kandahar

KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): Three individuals were killed as a result of a landmine blast in southern Kandahar province on Wednesday.

Two police personnel and a moneychanger were killed in the blast that took place in the second police district close to Ghazi Park in Kandahar City, the provincial capital.

A security source, speaking on condition of anonymity, told Pajhwok Afghan News the explosives had been placed in a bottle. One policeman was killed in the blast, he added.

In another report, unidentified gunmen shot dead a policewoman in the Deh Khwaja area in limits of the 4th police district on Tuesday evening.

Police spokesman Jamal Nasir Barakzai told Pajhwok the policewoman was gunned down on her way home from duty.

The policewoman named Laila and was serving in Daman district.

Separately, unknown armed men shot dead a moneychanger in the limits of the 15th police district of Kandahar City late on Tuesday.

The gunmen managed to flee the area after the incident. The motive behind the killing was yet to be known.

Elsewhere, three Taliban insurgents were killed and four others wounded when the militants attacked a police check-post in the Gul Jan locality of Maiwand district, said Khwaja Yahya Alawi, spokesman for the 205th Atal Military Corps.

He said the security forces suffered no casualties in the attack. Taliban have said nothing in this regard.
